Since 1976, she has caved, rock climbed, and climbed mountains all over the world. Brigitte studied archaeology, history of art and musicology before she moved to Australia in 1980 & became Australian in 1987.
Brigitte thrived on nine expeditions to 8000m high peaks, on mountains everywhere, in Australian and Antarctic deserts.
In 1997,she became the first Australian woman to climb Mount Everest and the first Australian, male or female, to climb the highest peak on each continent.
In 1998, Penguin published Brigitte's autobiography. It is called ‘The Wind in my Hair’.
In 2004, Brigitte wrote a book for National Geographic based on her Everest climb. It is part of the ‘Windows on Literacy’ series and is called ‘Climbing Mount Everest’
In more recent years Brigitte has been busy with explorations through painting and film making. Brigitte still shares her passion and experience of mountaineering with people, leading custom designed trips for World Expeditions. Brigitte's latest dream (now call it actualised vision!) is to help women in Nepal to learn to read and write so as to better their own and their families lives. This had led to a vision of treks for participants to develop their inner leaders through interaction and workshops in the Solu.
Brigitte love is to share her experiences and learnings with young people, women groups and the corporate world through treks and motivational speaking.
Email Brigitte to book a very special and inspirational time!
